Minor Athlete Safety Policy
Effective Date: September 2026
Parratto Performance is committed to providing a safe, professional, respectful, and supportive environment for every athlete participating in mentorship services. This policy outlines the additional safeguards and expectations that apply when working with athletes under the age of 18.
Age Requirement
Parratto Performance athlete mentorship is available to athletes 13 years of age and older. Parratto Performance does not provide athlete mentorship services to athletes under the age of 13. Athletes between the ages of 13 and 17 are considered minor athletes and must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian before participating in Parratto Performance mentorship services.
Parent or Guardian Consent
Before a minor athlete begins mentorship, a parent or legal guardian must:
Complete or approve the required registration and consent process.
Provide current parent or guardian contact information.
Consent to the minor athlete's participation in Parratto Performance.
Review and acknowledge applicable Parratto Performance policies.
Parents and legal guardians are encouraged to ask questions about the mentorship process and should feel comfortable with their athlete's participation before mentorship begins.
Virtual Mentorship Sessions
Parratto Performance mentorship sessions are primarily conducted virtually through Google Meet. Sessions are designed to provide athletes with a private, supportive, and professional environment where they can speak openly, ask questions, reflect on their experiences, and develop greater independence and ownership of their athletic development.
For minor athletes, a parent or legal guardian must consent to the virtual mentorship arrangement and be informed of scheduled sessions.
Parents or guardians are not required to participate in or listen to individual mentorship sessions but are welcome to ask questions or discuss concerns about the mentorship process.
Session privacy does not constitute absolute confidentiality. If information arises that raises concerns about an athlete's safety or wellbeing, or disclosure is required by law, Parratto Performance may involve a parent or legal guardian, qualified professionals, emergency services, or appropriate authorities as necessary.
Communication With Minor Athletes
Parratto Performance maintains clear and transparent communication practices when working with minor athletes.
Email Communication
Email is the designated method of electronic communication with minor athletes outside scheduled mentorship sessions.
Athletes may receive emails directly if they have their own email address; however, a parent or legal guardian must always be CC'd on all email correspondence.
If an athlete does not have an individual email address, correspondence will be directed to their parent or legal guardian.
This requirement applies to all mentorship-related communication, including scheduling, journal assignments, homework, session follow-ups, and other program matters.
If a minor athlete initiates an email without including their parent or guardian, Parratto Performance will add the parent or guardian to the response.
No Texting or Direct Messaging
Parratto Performance does not communicate directly with minor athletes through text messages, social media direct messages, or other private messaging platforms. Phone numbers collected during athlete registration are maintained for administrative or emergency contact purposes and will not be used for routine text communication with minor athletes. All electronic communication outside scheduled mentorship sessions will follow the email procedures outlined above.
Parent or Guardian Contact Information
Phone numbers collected during registration for minor athletes must belong to a parent or legal guardian, not the minor athlete. These numbers are maintained for administrative, scheduling, or emergency contact purposes. Parratto Performance may communicate directly with parents or legal guardians by phone or text when appropriate but does not engage in texting or private messaging with minor athletes.
Journaling, Homework & Between-Session Communication
Athletes may receive journal prompts, reflection exercises, goal-setting activities, and other mentorship assignments between sessions. These activities reinforce concepts discussed during mentorship and encourage self-awareness, accountability, and personal development. Journal prompts, homework instructions, and session follow-up materials will be delivered by email. For minor athletes, a parent or legal guardian will always be copied on these communications.
An athlete's personal journal belongs to the athlete. Athletes are not required to share their private journal entries in their entirety with Parratto Performance. They may choose what they feel comfortable discussing during mentorship sessions, subject to the safety and confidentiality limitations outlined in this policy.
Professional Boundaries
All interactions through Parratto Performance will maintain appropriate professional boundaries. Parratto Performance does not tolerate abuse, harassment, bullying, grooming, sexual misconduct, discrimination, retaliation, or other inappropriate conduct toward an athlete. Communication and mentorship will remain appropriate to the athlete's age and development and to the professional nature of the mentorship relationship. The mentor-athlete relationship is intended to support the athlete's growth and development while maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries at all times.
Parent & Guardian Involvement
Parratto Performance values the important role parents and guardians play in a young athlete's development. The goal is to create an environment in which the athlete has space to develop independence and trust within the mentorship relationship while parents and guardians remain informed and comfortable with their athlete's participation. Parents and guardians are encouraged to ask questions about the mentorship process and may contact Parratto Performance with concerns regarding their athlete's participation, safety, or overall experience. To preserve the athlete's trust and encourage open communication, Parratto Performance will not routinely provide parents or guardians with a detailed account of everything discussed during an individual mentorship session. General information regarding the mentorship process, goals, or areas of development may be discussed when appropriate while respecting the athlete's privacy. If a concern arises involving an athlete's safety or wellbeing, appropriate information may be shared with the parent or legal guardian regardless of the athlete's expectation of privacy. Parents or guardians who would like individualized guidance on supporting their athlete may also schedule a separate Parent Education session with Parratto Performance.
Scope of Mentorship
Parratto Performance provides athlete mentorship, education, and performance-development support. Mentorship may include topics such as mindset, confidence, goal setting, competition preparation, visualization, communication, leadership, accountability, performance habits, and navigating the experiences and challenges associated with competitive diving. Parratto Performance is not a substitute for an athlete's diving coach and does not provide medical care, mental health treatment, therapy, diagnosis, nutrition therapy, or other services requiring a licensed professional. If an athlete's needs fall outside the scope of mentorship, Parratto Performance may encourage the athlete and/or their parent or legal guardian to seek support from an appropriately qualified professional. If an athlete shares information that raises a concern regarding their health, safety, or wellbeing, appropriate steps may be taken to involve a parent or legal guardian, emergency services, appropriate authorities, or other qualified professionals when necessary or required by law.
Athlete Safety Standards
Parratto Performance is committed to maintaining appropriate athlete-safety practices and clear professional boundaries when working with minor athletes. Parratto Performance's athlete-safety practices are informed by recognized athlete-safety principles and guidance, including those established by the U.S. Center for SafeSport and the Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies (MAAPP), as applicable. These safeguards are intended to protect minor athletes while creating an environment in which athletes can develop confidence, independence, self-awareness, and ownership of their athletic experience.
Reporting Safety Concerns
Athletes, parents, and legal guardians are encouraged to raise any concern regarding an interaction, communication, professional boundary, or other safety matter involving Parratto Performance. Concerns involving suspected abuse, misconduct, or athlete safety may also be reported to appropriate authorities or sport-governing organizations when applicable. Parratto Performance will take safety concerns seriously and respond in a manner consistent with applicable laws, policies, and athlete-safety obligations.
